From Clippers to Culture: Revitalizing a Barbershop's Brand

Overview
Energy Sport Barbershop, a local community barbershop owned by Felipe, needed a fresh brand identity to attract customers and stand out from nearby competitors. The goal was to create a professional look that reflected Felipe’s energy and Dominican-American pride, symbolized by a red, white, and blue color palette.

Role and Responsibilities
I led the design, handling logo creation, signage, and brand visuals that embodied Felipe’s vibrant personality. Working closely with him, I ensured the brand resonated with both regular clients and new customers.

Creative Process and Approach
I researched local competitors and sports-inspired imagery, crafting concepts that balanced Felipe’s friendly, approachable vibe with a polished, professional aesthetic. We refined the look through multiple drafts to capture the shop’s unique character.

Design Solutions and Choices
The Energy Sport Barbershop branding used bold, classic cursive typography for a modern yet timeless look. Elements like clippers and a barber pole wheel added movement, symbolizing energy, while the red, white, and blue palette honored Felipe’s American and Dominican roots. These choices created a vibrant, welcoming identity that increased visibility and celebrated the barbershop’s cultural significance.

Challenges and Problem-Solving
Differentiating Energy Sport from competitors on a budget was key. By collaborating with local sign makers, we achieved a high-quality, impactful look within financial constraints.

Final Outcome and Client Feedback
The rebrand successfully increased foot traffic and customer engagement, with Felipe reporting higher morale and more satisfied clients. The redesign also led to additional design inquiries from new customers.

Reflection and Key Takeaways

This project reinforced the importance of community connection in branding. Bringing Felipe’s story to life strengthened my skills in creating culturally resonant, community-focused designs.
